Modernisation of locks on the Charleroi-Brussels canal
The Walloon Infrastructure and Transport Ministry (known by its French initials, MET) awarded Tractebel Engineering the renovation contract for electromechanical equipment, consisting of studies and execution of locks and related pumping stations at Marchienne, Gosselies and Viesvilles, located on the Sambre side of the Charleroi-Brussels canal. The study also calls for extensions required for the future integration of electromechanical equipment on the three new locks to be built on these same sites.
This study is part of the connection of the Walloon inland waterways network to the Seine-Escaut link, which in time will be able to handle Va class boats. The contract also includes feasibility studies for the production of renewable energy (wind, photovoltaic panels and a hydroelectric power station) at three sites.
